Hard Times
Birthday Party - 6th August 1993
Hard Times finds itself just around the
corner from Huddersfield University, it can’t be
missed due to the neon pink “Bel Air” sign on
the front.
On the outside it looks like a medieval church
and inside is definitely no disappointment.
There’s plenty of room for the masses that flock
there week in and week out and for any
newcomers!!
There’s ample parking space, but get there early
so you don’t have to trek up the hill. We
arrived around 9.30pm and there were just a few
people milling outside along with a small queue.
The bouncers make sure you get in quickly and
they know how to smile! The entry fee for the
birthday party was £15 and worth every penny. On
normal nights it is £8 guests, £6 members from
9pm – 2am.
The inside consists of 2 rooms – 1 incredibly
large room with 2 floors, which has 3 bars to
cater for those who like their booze and there’s
plenty of short skirts and long haired lovelies.
Room 2 is light and smaller than the other, but
the music certainly makes up for it. Whatever
your taste in music, dress styles, the opposite
sex and liquid refreshment, there’s something to
suite everyone.
The attitude of the whole club is so laid back
it’s almost horizontal, you can do whatever you
like and no-one gives a damn, (apart from one
girlie who was wondering around all night
clutching a bottle of champers and scowling at
any female slightly attractive). Stay at home
next time lovely!!
The live PA for the night was the exceptional
Juliet Roberts, who took to the stairs for her
numbers and had the crowd in uproar, (she was
far better than the last times we saw her at
Soak, Corn Exchange).
One of the highlights of the evening, for the
men anyway, must have been the semi clad dancers
who flaunted their bits on the stairs for most
of the night (not for the naïve)!! What we
wanted to know is where were the naked men?!!
The layout of Hardtimes is easy to follow, even
if you’re blathered, but avoid those stairs and
crowded passageways, if you don’t want to lose
your friends and yourself. There’s some rather
fetching landing lights on the stairs, so at
least your fee can see where they’re going!
If you fancy yourself, which a lot in there do,
because no-one else will, you’ll love the
numerous mirrors. I kept bumping in to this
really sexy girl all night, then I realised it
was me!!
Do not, we repeat DO NOT go to this club in your
winter woollies and wellies because you WILL be
too warm, in fact if you go in your bikini
(which many did) you’ll be too warm, although if
you check out the smaller room it’s a degree
cooler (but not much).
There is nothing to dislike about Hard Times in
our opinion and many others, the music is spot
on, the atmosphere and people are brilliant,
drinks are the same price as anywhere nowadays.
The men are really sexy, and it’s not too far
from anywhere (unless you live at Lands End!!).
If you’ve been to Hard Times before, we are sure
you will agree with us, if you haven’t, and you
want an excellent night out, we suggest you go
along and see what you’ve been missing. Have a
good one! See yer there!!
