DJ Foodjunky
Interview 2006
1. First of all how did you come about chosen
your name?
It’s a long story, but here’s the short version.
Every DJ/promoter needs an alias, due to my
fitness training I eat a lot and regularly.
Someone else gave me the name food junky because
of the strange combinations of foods that I mix
(pot noodle & digestives anyone?), at the time I
didn’t really like it but it stuck.
2. I see you have been into the music scene since
1985, music must have played a massive part in you life. You must
have seen a few good events in the past?
Yes. The best of them probably has to be playing at Fantazia at
Castle Donnington in front of 25,000 people, World Dance at Llydd
Airport (7,000 people), Fantazia NYE at a mansion in Berkshire
somewhere (10,000 people). There have been so many good events over
the years the list could go on and on.
3. I see you used to be involved with a little bit of break dancing,
as you used to be part of Beatsworkin, any of the dancing skill
still alive?
Funnily enough someone at the gym the other day asked if I’ve still
got the skills, so I bust a windmill for them. My aim is to still be
able to do one at age 60, because James Brown could still do the
splits at age 60! As to body popping I will pop, moonwalk & side
glide the ass off anyone in the dance!
4. Looking into your life we find you have worked a
long side some other big names like yourself. Kenny ken etc. Is
there anyone you haven’t worked along side with, but you would want
to?
Kenny who? Ha ha, he’s a good mate of mine really. To be honest I’ve
worked alongside all the major players such as: Andy C, Fabio,
Grooverider, Bukem, Slipmatt plus many more. I prefer doing my own
thing now, but I'm finally looking into making some beats of my own.
5. What was your best memory within your music life?
I've seen a few good hip-hop acts back in the day like Run-DMC, Eric
B and Rakim, Public Enemy, LL Cool J, when they where at the top of
their game. Also my break dancing days at Covent Garden with Tim
Westwood on the mic way back when. Plus my rare groove days, and of
course all my raving days, long may they continue.
6. Is there a venue you would love to play at, any
really pop into your head?
I played wembley arena but it would have been good to play wembely
stadium. Other than that I’ve played most venues round London so
maybe some more tropical beach parties or on top of a mountain.
7. Is there anything big planned for the master food
junky?
What apart from my lunch? Yeah expecting 4 kids off 3 different
women! Only joking!! I’d really be happy to just carry on
entertaining the masses.
8. Is there anything you would like to tell the
world?
If its too loud your too old! And I love you all. Also my favorite
quote “It’s ridiculous to claim that computer games affect children.
If Pac-Man had affected Kids, then today we would have lots of young
people, running around in dark rooms, eating pills and listening to
repetitive music”.
Any shout outs to people and companies?
All the Kool 94.6 FM crew and listeners for putting up with me
alternate Saturdays 5-7pm. I’d like to big up Ben.J & Dissect at
Casa Records in Harlow for supplying me with fresh (and not so
fresh) vinyl. Rave Utopia crew, Moondance crew, my nephew Chrissy
Chris whos repping radio one and 1xtra, all the original A.W.O.L.
and World Dance crew, my driver Pauly Paul & Grant Epidemik (my
lollypop supplier). Last but not least you guys for letting me tell
the world my story. Thanks for reading. It’s all lies by the way.
Ha, not really!
Thank you for you time
